Three Amphibian triathletes took part in the biggest challenge of their lives, Ironman France 2018 on the Cote D’Azur in Nice. They were proudly aided by their Amphibian coach who wanted to see the training plan provided though to its big day. All three successfully finished and heard those fantastic words ‘You are an Ironman!’ as they crossed the finish line at the end of a hard days racing.
They all showed the strength and determination needed to complete the Ironman event, putting in all the training sessions planned by their coach. But a special mention has to be made to one of them who at 50km into the bike leg, on a long, fast decent was overtaken by a rider who cut in too soon, consequently causing contact of wheels and she was thrown off her bike, sustaining a broken hand, whip lash and a damaged bike! But, nothing was going to stop her finishing this race after 6 months of hard training!
After a check over by medics and some bike repairs, she was on the road again! In total, losing 40minutes of valuable time on the bike leg due to the incident, but instead of calling it a day carried on through the pain and anguish to cross the line with a big smile on her face.
A brilliant achievement by all – well done!
